I'd hope the Cards are all over that. He may not be "Lights Out" Merriman anymore, but he's a good NFL player.

Worst case scenario he contributes the same as Porter and Will Davis have so far. If he's willing to take whatever role and contract he is offered then bring him in.

OTOH, I doubt we are the only team that might be interested in him, in which case I see him far more likely to go to a contender. In that case, we'd have to claim him off waivers. Billy B won't be willing to take on his overpriced contract.

It'd be hard to argue that he's not better than any other OLB on our roster. I say bring him in for shiggles. I don't want to blame all of his failures for lack of roids (he only failed one out of 15 tests), but it wouldn't hurt to bring him in and see if he can turn it around.

If he was cut from the Steelers instead of the Chargers we would have put in a waiver claim the minute the news broke.

Why was he cut ?
Why wouldn't the Chargers trade Jackson when they're clearly not going to get a thing for him after the season and very little from him during it? Why did the Cardinals cut Leinart when the QB situation was so tenuous? Why are the Redskins looking at JeMarcus Russell?

Teams make personnel decisions all the time that aren't a true reflection of a player's value.

Or better yet, why did the Giants cut Kurt Warner?

The Chargers aren't trading Jackson because their owner is an idiot and stubborn as hell. He's not trading Jackson just to get back at him and his agent for being A) a pain in the ass and B) calling him out (VJ's agent called him the "lord of no rings"). The Cardinals cut Leinart because they didn't believe in his talents. He's not a 3rd string QB for the Texans. That doesn't say anything positive about his "value". JaMarcus Russell got cut because he sucked. They are probably signing him as a 3rd string QB to help get McNabb in good enough shape to run the 2 minute offense. With JaWalrus eating every unhealthy food in site, Donovan will be forced to maintain a healthier diet.

Those are some terrible examples to bring up. Leinart and JaWalrus? You can surely do better than that.

They released Merriman because he sucks. 4 sacks in his last 17 games. No one is going to trade anything significant for an injury prone/ineffective passrusher when he is off the juice, might as well cut your losses and move on.

Adam Schefter: Buffalo has claimed LB Shawne Merriman. He has five days to report to Buffalo; plans to for now. He is not expected to play Sunday vs. Chic.
