Shane Brinham of Michigan, one of the top starting pitchers in the transfer portal, announced his commitment to Vanderbilt baseball on social media.
Brinham, a native of North Vancouver, British Columbia, started in 10 of his 18 appearances as a freshman in 2026, moving into the weekend rotation later in the season. The left-hander put up a 3.88 ERA with 61 strikeouts and 35 walks in 65 innings, and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team.
At Michigan, Brinham was best known for throwing two complete-game shutouts: one a seven-inning outing against Oregon with no walks and seven strikeouts, and one a nine-inning outing against Ohio State with three walks and 11 strikeouts. The latter shutout came in a Big Ten Tournament elimination game.
Listed at 6-foot-1, 181 pounds, Brinham throws a low-90s fastball along with a slider, curveball and changeup, with the slider being his standout pitch. He was ranked the No. 29 player in the transfer portal by Baseball America and was the top uncommitted, non-draft eligible pitcher remaining in the portal.
Brinham projects to immediately contend for a weekend rotation spot at Vanderbilt, which was in desperate need of more pitching after missing the NCAA Tournament this past season and failing to find any consistent starting pitchers beyond Connor Fennell.
