The Celtics won't be adding Giannis Antetokounmpo to their roster this season as the Bucks traded him to the Miami Heat on Monday night.

Miami's trade package was more appealing to the Bucks than the Celtics', and ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania explained why it was difficult for Boston to finalize a deal for Antetokounmpo.

"The Celtics were not willing to part with enough young players and assets to get a deal done," Charania said Tuesday morning on "SportsCenter".

Charania reported that the Celtics offered Jaylen Brown and two unprotected first-round picks to the Bucks, but Milwaukee wanted more in return.

The Bucks were likely hoping the Celtics would add a young player like Hugo González and possibly more. Milwaukee could also have been looking for Boston to add someone like Baylor Scheierman.

Boston did the right thing by not giving up its future, including young players and Brown, for Antetokounmpo. It wouldn’t have benefited the Celtics to trade Brown, potentially include González and Scheierman, and offer several draft picks to acquire Antetokounmpo. Giannis will turn 32 this year and has suffered multiple injuries over the past few seasons, which could recur at any time.
