If the Celtics are going to trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, they reportedly want assurances that he'd stay in Boston long-term.

Well, they've gotten those assurances, according to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania.

Several Monday reports indicate that the Celtics could be on the verge of trading for Antetokounmpo in a deal involving Jaylen Brown and other assets. Boston still is contending with the Miami Heat, Antetokounmpo's other preferred landing spot.

During a segment on "The Pat McAfee Show", Charania revealed that Boston and Miami both have received a commitment from Antetokounmpo that he'd sign a post-trade long-term extension.

"Right now, the Heat and the Celtics are the only two teams involved that have gotten the commitment from Giannis that he is willing to sign long-term. That's allowed Milwaukee to, really, leverage these teams against each other, and now they have a decision to make."

"The Milwaukee Bucks are trying to figure out which direction they're gonna go..

There are two serious offers on the table from the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics for Giannis Antetokounmpo..

There's going to be a resolution very soon"@ShamsCharania#PMSLivepic.twitter.com/joubk74Q7W

Charania added that a trade is expected to happen in the next "24 hours", meaning sometime before the 2026 NBA Draft starts on Tuesday.

Antetokounmpo has two years left on his current contract, with salaries of $58 million for the 2026-27 season and $63 million for the 2027-28 campaign.
