The Boston Celtics are planning to extend former two way wing Ron Harper Jr. according to recent reporting from senior ESPN contributor Shams Charania. The ESPN reporter relates that "Harper Jr. intends to sign a new three-year, $9 million deal to return to the franchise."
"The Celtics are declining Harper's $2.6M team option, clearing the way for the sides to commit on a longer deal," adds Charania. Harper went unselected out of Rutgers in the 2022 NBA Draft, instead signing a two way deal with the Toronto Raptors. When that ended, he latched onto the Sin City Celtics for the 2024 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, and managed to convert that into a deal with the Maine Celtics, and later, a two way stint with the Detroit Pistons.
Harper followed that up with a training camp deal with Boston, which he later converted into a two way deal and then a standard contract after that.
The Paterson, New Jersey native put up 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game with the Celtics last season.
Over the course of 29 games played with Boston, he shot 41.8 percent from the field overall, 35.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 75.0 percent from the free throw line.
