Long before he landed his first full roster spot with the Boston Celtics, Rutgers University Men's Basketball head coach Steve Pikiell saw a pro player in Ron Harper Jr. And given his family background with a famous father in the sport having forged a path into the NBA, that is not such a wild vision to have. But there are also plenty of sons of former NBA stars that have not managed to find success in their parents' shadow, too.

"I’m just so thankful he’s in Boston," said Pikiell via the Boston Globe. "I thought Ron was as draftable a player as there was in college basketball his senior year. He was over 1,800 points. He got better every single year."

"I always knew he was a pro," added the Rutgers head coach. "He just can score. And the way the pro model was drifting into the position-less player, I’m so glad that (Celtics President of Basketball Operations) Brad (Stevens) and those guys saw what I’ve seen forever from the kid."

"He can play the point guard, 2, 3, 4, and he’s strong enough to defend all of them," suggested Pikiell. "His evolution has been like it’s always been. He gets better. He learns. He’s coachable. He’s a big-moment guy."

"I’m so glad they locked him in. I know they’re going to want to lock him into a five-year deal after this one ends."
