The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Florida State right-handed pitcher Bryson Moore in the seventh round (pick 198) of the 2026 Major League Draft.
Moore is now the third Florida State pitcher to hear his name called and the fifth Seminole player taken in this year's draft. The draft slot for Moore is valued at $317,100.00.
The third member of the rotation and Sunday starter for the Seminoles, Moore posted a 6-2 record with a 3.86 ERA. Moore recorded 65 strikeouts against only 25 walks and allowed opposing hitters a batting average of just .230.
Moore commands three pitches: a fastball (low 90 mph), a change-up (84-85 mph), and a curveball.
During the 2025 season, Moore set a career-high with seven strikeouts against Northern Illinois. He matched those numbers in wins over No. 10 Virginia and Wake Forest.
As a prep star in Virginia, Moore was the No. 2 right-hander and No. 8 overall player in the state, and was a multi-sport star, having also played football and basketball at the prep level.
Major League Baseball has now called coach Link Jarrett’s entire 2026 starting rotation up to the next level. Wes Mendes, the ACC Pitcher of the Year this past season, was selected in the second round by the Houston Astros on Saturday. On Sunday, pitcher Trey Beard got the call from the Miami Marlins, which selected Beard with the 147th pick in the fifth round.
First baseman Myles Bailey will take his power swing to Chicago and play for the Cubs organization, which selected Bailey with the No.75 pick in the second round. Outfielder Brayden Dowd will take his dependability, both in the field and at the plate, out West to Arizona and play for the Diamondbacks, who selected Dowd with the No. 88 pick of the third round.
Jarrett potentially has lost two high school commitments to the Majors as well. Pitching prospect Kaden Waechter was selected No. 55 overall in the second round by the San Francisco Giants. That slot value is worth $1,763,000.00, so that kind of money may be hard for Waechter to pass up.
In addition, shortstop Landon Thome was selected at No. 34 by the Chicago White Sox, with a slot value of $2,897,400.00. That is a ton of money for a teenage rising star. Thome is the son of MLB Hall of Famer Jim Thome.
