The Mountain West was hit hard in conference realignment but was able to maintain its footing and add new members.

A large chunk of the league left for the Pac-12 rebuild, so the Mountain West refilled from a variety of areas.

Here's a look at the new Mountain West.

What football teams are in the Mountain West?

Here are the football programs in the Mountain West, as of July 1, 2026:

  • Air Force
  • Hawaii
  • Nevada
  • North Dakota State
  • Northern Illinois
  • New Mexico
  • San Jose State
  • UNLV
  • UTEP
  • Wyoming

Other Mountain West membership notes

North Dakota State and Northern Illinois have joined the Mountain West as football-only members. Hawaii is now a full member after previously having been a football-only member.

UC-Davis has joined in all sports except football (UC-Davis remains FCS in football). Grand Canyon is also a full member, but GCU does not have football.

UTEP has joined as a full member.

Who left the Mountain West for the Pac-12?

These are the programs who left the Mountain West for the Pac-12:

  • Boise State
  • Colorado State
  • Fresno State
  • San Diego State
  • Utah State
