Several of the best prospects in the Seattle Mariners farm system, outfielder Lazaro Montes and infielder/outfielder Michael Arroyo moved up a level ahead of the All-Star Break, and are impressing in their new surroundings with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.
The Mariners promoted another top 100 prospect following their 6-3 win against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.
According to a report on "X" from MiLB Central, Seattle promoted shortstop Felnin Celesten from the High-A Everett AquaSox to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers.
Celesten, who was originally signed as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic on Jan. 15, 2023, is in the midst of a career-best professional season.
In 80 games with Everett this season, Celesten is slashing .314/.409/.534 with a .943 OPS and has hit 21 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs with 52 RBIs and has stolen 18 bases in 22 attempts.
Soon after his signing with the Mariners, Celesten was a near-consensus top 100 prospect. But injuries and inconsistencies caused him to fall off most rankings at the tail end of last season.
Celesten was limited to just 32 games played from 2023-24 due to a hamstring injury and broken hamate bone in his wrist. He was promoted to the AquaSox last year. In 11 games with the High-A club, he slashed .158/.313/.289 with a .602 OPS and hit a triple and a homer with four RBIs.
Celesten's career-best season has coincided with him returning to most top 100 lists. He's currently ranked 70th on MLB Pipeline's top 100 and 94th on Baseball America's top 100.
Celesten is just 20-years-old with 216 games of professional experience under his belt, but this season has been the first sustained sign of the traits that earned him a $4.7 million signing bonus upon his signing.
Celesten is currently predicted to make his major league debut in 2028, per MLB Pipeline.
The Travelers have a day off Monday, meaning Celesten will likely make his Double-A debut against the Texas Rangers' Double-A affiliate, the Midland RockHounds, on Tuesday at Momentum Bank Ballpark in Midland, Texas.
Arkansas will likely benefit from Celesten's arrival, as it lost both Arroyo and Montes upon their respective promotions.
The Travelers are currently 9-12 in the second half of the minor league season and fourth in the Texas League North, behind the respective affiliates of the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Chiefs in the division.
