The Seattle Mariners farm system strengthened its argument as arguably the best minor league system in baseball following a recent update from the MLB Pipeline's top 100 on Saturday.
The Mariners entered the season with six prospects in the top 100. Its top prospect, and the No. 5 prospect in baseball per the publication, infielder Colt Emerson was called up for his major league debut May 17 and is currently entrenched as the team's starting third baseman.
Seattle now has seven prospects on the top 100.
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage, who made his major league debut September last season, officially "graduated" from the top 100 Saturday. Upon his graduation, Mariners shortstop Felnin Celesten was moved into the list and is currently ranked No. 100.
The switch-hitting infielder was signed to a franchise-record $4.7 million as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in the 2023 international signing period.
Celesten joined the organization as one of the most highly-rated prospects from that year's international class (No. 2 per MLB Pipeline).
In the years that followed Celesten's signing, prospect analysts were high on his talent and he was included on several top 100 lists.
However, injuries and consistencies led to him falling off of those rankings toward the tail end of last season. He played in just 136 games from 2023-25 in Seattle's organization due to a combination of injuries, including a hamstring strain, a broken hamate bone in his wrist and vertigo-like symptoms.
This season, the switch-hitting shortstop is putting together by far his best season as a pro and analysts are starting to take notice.
Celesten was also ranked No. 17 in the most recent top 50 rankings from Keith Law of the Athletic.
In 44 games with the High-A Everett AquaSox this season entering Saturday, Celesten has slashed .317/.423/.472 with an .895 OPS and has hit 11 doubles, a triple and four home runs with 26 RBIs. He's stolen 10 bases in 13 opportunities.
Celesten had a 25-game hit streak from April 21-May 21. It was snapped in a game against the Tri-City Dust Devils on May 22.
A promotion to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers seems all but certain for Celesten this season. The M's have promoted current top 100 prospects, outfielder Lazaro Montes, infielder/outfielder Michael Arroyo and Emerson around the All-Star break in the past.
If what he's shown through the first two months of the season is any indication, the 20-year-old switch-hitter won't be falling off the top 100 lists anytime soon.
