John Meyer and his Ridgeline Club have added another piece to Seaside High School’s Ridgeline Trail.

The retired teacher set out with a vision a few years ago to build a hiking, mountain biking and running trail around Seaside High School. This was intended to give local mountain bikers a course on which to test their skills. In addition to mountain biking, the trail has become a staple of cross country season. Seaside now hosts The Ridgeline Invitational, a cross country meet that will be entering its fourth year in fall 2026.

Throughout the building of the trail Meyer has always been open to feedback in order to make the trail as good as possible. With enthusiasm in the community towards a more advanced trail, Meyer and his Ridgeline Club recently partnered with Home Depot to add 38 new feet of decking over the spring ditch at Stinson Creekside Trail. The Stinson Trail is one of many side loops of the main Ridgeline Trail.

“Home Depot has in the past done a lot of work with veterans and their homes,” Meyer said. “I didn’t really plan to ask them for help, but the assistant store manager, Arthur Koustik, has done these projects before and offered to help out once he got word of what we were doing.”

On Thursday May 14, Home Depot and Meyers’ Seaside Ridgeline Club got to work. Due to them having nine-and-a-half acres of land to work with, they got to work building the Rimshot Deck.

“Home Depot built everything,” Meyer said. “After they were done we ordered pizza and Ridgeline Club President Chantrell Lee gave a speech and thanked them.”

According to Meyer, Ridgeline Trail is the only true mountain biking trail on the North Coast and he is hoping that adding the wooden deck to Stinson Creekside Trail will lead to even more biking enthusiasts using it.

“This trail is definitely geared more towards biking than the jumps,” Meyer said. “The owner of A’s Bike Shop in Seaside has expressed interest in putting together a race and having his riders participate.

“We want to have more people ride it, since the more people ride it, the better the trail will get.”
