The Denver Broncos kicked off mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, marking the team's final on-field push before the start of training camp. However, this week will also mark a huge milestone for the Broncos and their time under the leadership of the Walton-Penner ownership group.
The team is set to soon move into its new state-of-the-art training facility, which will bring all the departments, from ownership to football personnel, under one roof for the first time in franchise history. The Broncos Park facility was first announced in November 2023, broke ground in late August 2024, and construction of the facility has steadily progressed "on time and on budget," according to Broncos owner Greg Penner.
Denver's old administrative building will eventually be demolished, making room for the construction of a new berm for fans to watch training camp. However, in 2026, the team will use temporary bleachers for training camp.
Coach Sean Payton talked about the new facility and its benefits to the team itself after the team wrapped up organized team activities last week.
“As rosters have changed, the locker rooms have become a little bit tighter," Payton said last week. "I think that’s the No. 1 thing. The meeting room space. I think you won’t have that occasional day where you don’t have a scraper in your car and there’s ice on your windshield. You’ll be under the ground parking."
The state-of-the-art amenities in the building will also be useful for film review and the NFL draft.
"I think there will be a combination of a lot of things," Payton said. "Maybe tech things too that we’re able to do in draft rooms and meeting rooms. Call up information on video, access it quicker. I’ve kind of gone through it a few times. It looks fantastic. I’m kind of like a little bit where you don’t like change. You kind of get attached to what you’re used to. Right now you’re putting pictures in boxes. Although it’s only across the field, it’s still a move. I think it’s going to be eventually great for the fans too because that dirt that used to be there is going to end up here. At some point, I know that’s the plan. It’s exciting.”
The team will make Broncos Park their new home for the foreseeable future, and mark the first big physical move of the Walton-Penner group's leadership. The next big move may occur as soon as 2031, when the team aims to move into a new, retractable-roof stadium, which is projected to be at Burnham Yard in Denver, Colorado.
Fans will be eager to see photos of the new facility once it officially opens.
