In the buildup to the start of training camp, outside of Denver Broncos offseason additions such as wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, one of the biggest storylines was the building and opening of the brand-new Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit.
After the building drew rave reviews from coach Sean Payton and team ownership, many of the veteran players got their first look at the $175 million edifice when they reported on Tuesday, marking the start of camp. And the players were extremely impressed with the structure.
"This is incredible," said All-Pro guard Quinn Meinerz. "I’m finding new things every time, and I’ve just stayed on the first floor of this thing. I got to park underground. When I get done with practice, my truck’s not going to be 150 degrees, that’s a nice little thing. The locker room is close, the food’s right there, the weight room’s right there, the field’s right here. The ease of everything is just incredible. Greg and Carrie [Penner] have done an exceptional job, and I haven’t even gone to any of the other floors yet.”
Star cornerback Pat Surtain agreed, saying he was blown away with the building. "My expectations were high, and it definitely exceeded my expectations," PS2 said. "I don't think there's anything like this in the league. I mean, it's state of the art. Very nice facilities, everything. It seems like when you look at it, obviously you look at the locker rooms, the facilities, it just seemed like it was meant to be. They put it in the right spot, in the right position with this team. So it's great that we have this at our disposal.”
One of the biggest changes is the larger locker room for the team. "I couldn’t stop smiling," Meinerz said. "It was incredible. I feel like it has more of a social atmosphere to it. It’s kind of like a big room with an underlaid couch, TVs, so I’m excited to see the flow of it. The storage I have in my locker is going to be nice."
Meinerz also believes the new facility could improve the team's performance in 2026 and beyond. "I’ve already noticed how much closer everything is," Meinerz noted. "In the previous building, weight room, you have to walk. It sounds so spoiled, but you have to walk a little bit to go to the weight room. Right now the weight room is connected to the locker room pretty much, so everything is so close. Those little minutes of time do add up throughout the day, so it’ll be nice to just have a really good flow of traffic and everything.”
Despite the relatively new setting of the facility, Surtain says that it is "special." "Honestly, everything is state of the art," he said. "I was in awe. It’s pretty special. It’s a testament to the Ownership Group, Greg and Carrie, for putting this together. It’s awesome. It feels like I’m in a maze right now though. I’m trying to figure out where to navigate and where to go, but it’s awesome.”
Meinerz also believes that the facility will be a big draw for future free agents. For example, when wide receiver Jaylen Waddle first arrived in Denver, he was taken through the then-nearly finished building. "You come here, and you see the first class everywhere," Meinerz said. "I went to the cafeteria, that’s wild. The new nutritionist area is incredible, the training room, the amount of tables that are in there, the pools, the tubs, the amenities. Like I said, I haven’t even been to any of the other floors, so I would assume whenever people come here and they take a tour, their mind’s going to be blown because we already had a really good setup, but this blows it out of the water."
The new building will be a large part of the Broncos for years to come, a testament to the money and time the Walton-Penner ownership group has put into the team in their relatively new service as owners.
