Sean McVay's recruitment of Davante Adams knows no bounds.
The Los Angeles Rams head coach was reportedly "aggressive" in his pursuit of the All-Pro receiver before he eventually signed this offseason. But Adams revealed he was receiving calls and texts in the early morning during his time in Japan — even when he was enjoying some time out a club.
Now, while that may seem like an odd place to try to reach out to a free agent, Japan is 16 hours ahead of Los Angeles. So, when Adams was receiving messages at 3 a.m. in Japan, McVay was actually making those pitches at 11 a.m. PST — not really that wild of a move for the head coach.
Still, McVay wasn't going to let a silly time zone get in the way of his quest to add a superstar pass-catcher to his team. And considering the seven-year age difference, Adams felt comfortable enough to tell his soon-to-be head coach where he was when he received his messages.
That connection will matter in 2025 and beyond for the Rams offense. Adams will have another star quarterback throwing him the ball in Matthew Stafford with a better offensive line than the one he endured during his time with the Raiders and Jets.
It could be a big year for Adams, and it all started at a Japanese club at 3 a.m.

“McVay is calling me, I’m out at a club and it’s like 3 a.m.,” Adams told The Athletic's Michael Silver. “I’m like, You know what? He’s like (39) years old. I can tell him (where I am).”
