The Los Angeles Rams are hoping one of their key members returns for the divisional round game against the Chicago Bears.
Right guard Kevin Dotson, who hasn't played since he injured his ankle against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16, practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday but isn't a lock to play against the Bears. However, head coach Sean McVay sounded optimistic about Dotson's chances to suit up, nothing that the guard hard "a look in his eye" about being available this weekend.
"He's got a good look in his eye," McVay said. "I know his intentions are to be able to go play and go do his thing, and so we're excited about that."
Dotson's return would be crucial for the Rams offense in this game. While the team still put up 34 points and 411 offensive yards, quarterback Matthew Stafford was sacked once but pressured eight times. He also took five quarterback hits.
The veteran guard's absence has been felt since his Week 16 exit. Stafford was sacked four times and pressured 19 times in the two full games without Dotson in the lineup. Getting him back in the offensive line would do wonders for Stafford's protection and trickle down to the rest of the unit, including the running game.
There is still time before the Rams need to make a decision on Dotson for the game. The hope is he can at least practice more this week.
