The Seattle Seahawks have spent the beginning of free agency focusing on retaining their key players. Wide receiver and return specialist Rashid Shaheed was given a massive extension. Alongside Shaheed, two of Seattle's more underrated cogs in their defense were cornerback Josh Jobe and linebacker Drake Thomas, who also received extensions. It was reported earlier in the week that the Seahawks agreed to terms to bring them all back. As of now, the team has made all three signings official.
Rashid Shaheed signed a three-year deal worth $51 million. Josh Jobe has a three-year, $24 million dollar contract. As for Drake Thomas, he has signed a two-year deal worth $8 million. Both contracts are incredible "bargains" for the Seahawks. To be able to retain two starting caliber players on such affordable deals is what is going to help keep Seattle competitive for 2026. While they may be relatively inexpensive, they still provide considerable pay raises for both Jobe and Thomas.
We all know how much of an impact Rashid Shaheed made in 2025 for the Seahawks, and Josh Jobe was an incredibly solid starter in the secondary. But I would like to take this time to give some love to Drake Thomas, and his biggest play of the year. It came in Week 18 against the 49ers when he intercepted a pass intended for running back Christian McCaffrey. San Francisco was marching to make it a one-score game, when Thomas denied them points and kept it a 13-3 game with the No. 1 seed on the line.
Retaining in-house talent is critical for any Super Bowl champion, who predictably gets plundered in free agency. But the fact the Seahawks were able to keep these three in the Emerald City is beyond crucial. Expect the Seahawks to make a solid attempt to defend their hard-earned crown in 2026.
