The Seattle Seahawks' biggest moves of free agency so far have been retaining their own talent. Earlier on Monday, they brought cornerback Josh Jobe back on a three-year deal. But Jobe wasn't the only one to earn a massive pay day from the Seahawks. Joining him is wide receiver and return specialist Rashid Shaheed.
ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the Seahawks are going to ink Shaheed to a three-year deal worth $51 million. Of that $51 million, $34.7 million of it is fully guaranteed.
The Seahawks acquired Shaheed at the deadline last season, sending the New Orleans Saints their fourth and fifth round picks. Shaheed was on a one-year deal and was going to test out free agency according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. Fortunately for Seahawks fans, their general manger John Schneider typically doesn't do one-year/half-year rentals. If Seattle trades for a player, they tend to find a way to keep said player. Once again, Schneider worked his magic and is keeping one of the most important pieces from Seattle's Super Bowl LX championship roster.
One could argue the Seahawks don't win the Super Bowl without Shaheed. His explosive playmaking ability put the team over the edge. Shaheed's biggest moment came in Week 16 when his punt return touchdown down 30-14 in the fourth quarter sparked Seattle's comeback. The Seahawks would eventually go on to win 38-37 in overtime, which altered the destinies of them, the Rams, and the rest of the league. Shaheed also had explosive moments in both the Divisional Round, where his opening kick return touchdown set the tone, and in the NFC Championship game.
