OTAs are concluding around the league. The Seattle Seahawks are heading towards hosting their mandatory minicamp. General manager John Schneider is likely considering tweaking the team after analyzing the full 90-man roster at OTA practices.

We've received confirmation that is indeed the case. The Seahawks recently worked out former Miami Dolphins and Detroit Lions safety Ifeatu Melifonwu, according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Melifonwu originally entered the league as the Lions' third-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

Melifonwu was an athletic specimen, leaping a 41.5-inch vertical and 11-foot-2 broad jump during the NFL Combine. That gave the former Syracuse standout some pedigree during the pre-draft process. Unfortunately, injuries and inconsistencies have prevented him from reaching his full potential.

The Seahawks are pretty well-stocked at safety despite losing starter Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears in free agency. Nick Emmanwori is a budding superstar heading into his sophomore season. The always reliable Julian Love is still around. Schneider also drafted TCU safety Bud Clark in the second round of the 2026 NFL draft.

ESPN's Brady Henderson believes signing Melifonwu isn't imminent. The Seahawks may have been adding him to their shortlist in case of a future injury. The Seahawks are kicking the tires of Melifonwu, a freakishly athletic safety who has failed to meet expectations.
