The Seattle Seahawks made the majority of mock draft-picks come true when they selected former North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel with the No. 18 overall selection in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Zabel should immediately help a Seahawks offensive line that is entering the 2025 season with several question marks.

General manager John Schneider was thrilled after making the pick.

"We landed our No. 1 interior offensive linemen in Grey Zabel," Schneider told reporters mere moments after the selection. "He's the highest interior player we've picked since [Hall of Famer] Hutch [Steve Hutchinson]. Everybody loves this guy [Zabel]. He's just buttoned up. Tough, smart, reliable, our kind of guy."

Schneider then dished on the staff's first exposure to Zabel during the pre-draft process. It apparently occurred at this year's Senior Bowl, after Zabel concluded his final college football season at North Dakota State. The small-school talent traveled to Mobile for the annual pre-draft showcase and proved he belonged alongside bigger-name prospects.

"Our first exposure [to Zabel] was at the Senior Bowl," Schneider continued. "He had a great week down there [in Mobile]. We felt like [No.] 18 was a sweet spot [to pick him]. We're really excited."

Zabel is versatile enough to play guard and center. The Seahawks currently possess holes at all three interior positions. The initial expectation is that Zabel will start at left guard this coming campaign, replacing Laken Tomlinson (who left in free agency) in the starting lineup.
