Wow. They must really like him...

Seattle agreed to move down 20 spots in the second round and part with a 2011 third-rounder to acquire Whitehurst from San Diego. The Seahawks go from holding the 40th overall choice, worth 500 points on the NFL draft trade value chart, to holding the 60th choice, worth 300 points. The 2011 third-round choice translates in value to a 2010 fourth-rounder, valued between 44 and 112 points.

Wow. Good luck with that Seattle, had the Cardinals given up a deal like that I'd have been pissed.

Since he was tendered as a 3rd round pick, that's what we would have paid. Since Seattle didn't have a 3rd, they had to work out a deal.

WOW!!!

I personally would have tracked down Rod Graves & beat the human snail into oblivion at TC with a saguaro catcus if we had given that up.

Bet he got a very nice contract also.

Not exactly true. If San Diego didn't think the third was enough they could have just chosen to match our offer. They also could play the two teams against each other in an effort to drive up the price.

i'm hoping the rumors aren't true - if so it's 2 yrs $10M

i think this guy has a lot of similar attributes to hasselbeck when seattle traded for him - however I see 4 main differences, hass came relatively cheap in the trade, MH knew him and was going to coach him, he was younger and his contract was perfect for a developmental project

if those figures are true, I have to say I am pretty happy with how Graves & co handled this QB situation. we made out like bandits in comparison.

i can't believe there were people who thought the contract Whitehurst eventually was gonna get was gonna be maybe just a little more than the tender... but then again, I can't believe a lot of what people think here.

Anyone know the guaranteed money Whitehurst will receive?

Agree 100% although swapping seconds wouldn't even have been an option for us as we are picking after SD. If it is true that SD was going to match if we didn't up the ante then we'd have had to offer our 2nd I'm guessing.

If true THANK YOU GRAVES for not doing this. That 2nd is far more important than an unproven backup QB.

i think it also shows the situation with both teams

AZ is in a position where they drafted a guy in the 1st round and are now seeing where he is at - if he falls apart he is done here and they have a bridge who will eventually be replaced by the next QBOF prospect

in seattle they have the aging guy who needs to be replaced - they aren't looking for a backup - they are looking for someone who can one day start

derek anderson is not a starting QB - he's just not good enough

whitehurst is a huge unknown - but he at least still has that potential

i'm not sure if seattle is done - but as it stands right now they will have whitehurst ready to play as a backup this year and eventually start next year which will be his moment of truth

Funny that I predicted the salary would exceed the $3.7M per barrier of the Final 8 rule.

Geez Cheese, whomever could you be speaking of???;) :)

Listen I will be the first to say I like Whitehursts potential ALOT. Part of that is because I am slightly obssessed with the QB Aaron Rodgers has become and from watching clips I saw alot of what makes Rodgers great in Whitehurst. Maybe I am reaching but I also like the accuracy, arms, and pedigree of the kid.

But I will be the first to say he wasn't worth THAT kind of gamble. Jesus Seattle, desperate much????

I still think Whitehurst will be good (and you can tell Seattle was enamored with him to give that up) but I think the chances of him reaching that potential lessen in Seattle considerably and I sure as hell wouldn't have given him that contract.

This worked out for the best. We keep our picks, get another big arm I liked, and gave a much more reasonable salary.

Because the bottom line is if things work out, Whitehurst would have been a back up anyway. I am NOT paying my back up 5 million.

Wow Seattle. Good luck Charlie.

I don't think $5 million a year for a QB who could be a starter is that bad. The draft picks are a lot, but if the Seahawks are right, they got a heck of a bargain.
