Why did Torey leave in ERod past the second inning? He was clearly not on his game. Did Torey let him pitch almost six innings so he could avoid the "L" with a big Dbacks comeback? What? Or did he let ERod keep pitching to keep his ERA from ballooning.

Thanks to the rain issue in St Louis, the Dbacks will have played 15 games out of 16 days since the all star game. They have 8 more games until they get a day off.

During those 15 games, they played 10 games on the road. Some guys are going to have to eat innings even when they stink.

What the hell happened to Carroll's, Perdomo's and Marte's bats this year?
Gerry has been quite hot over the last 10-12 games...the team had 6 hits last night and Gerry had 2 of 'em. Would be great if he can continue to remain hot. As for Carroll and Marte, I think there should be a growing concern over these two, especially Marte. Both seem entirely lost at the plate and when they do actually make contact with the ball, it feels accidental!
Marte has never been a disciplined hitter at the plate, but this season he has reached new lows... he virtually swings at everything while taking meatball strikes. And I've noticed on too many occasions now, he refuses to challenge what are crystal clear balls out of the strikezone where the ump called the pitch a strike - many strike 3 calls!

I've never been a fan of Corbin's swing as it's simply too long. And he really hasn't made any improvement in his glaring weak spot (elevated pitches on the inner half of the plate). At best, he fouls them off but most of the time he swings and misses.
The league has figured out how to deal with him now and it will be up to him to find a way to adjust. But with that long swing of his, I'm very concerned...

Just to eat some innings...and it was ERods request to stay in and do that.

I would expect new Diamondback Laars Nootbaar to get some opportunities to bat leadoff - could come as soon as today. Has a penchant for getting on base via the walk - had two last night.

In an effort to keep key players fresh for the final 47-game stretch it looks like Nolan Arenado and Ketel Marte will get the day off today.

Bratt vs Mize might have factored into the thinking here... Just hope Bratt can make it thru a minimum of 5 innings. I've got serious doubts...
