On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX. With the win, Seattle won its second championship in franchise history.

While the Seahawks’ defense dominated the game, quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 202 yards and a touchdown—and, perhaps most importantly, did not turn the ball over. With the performance, Darnold made history, becoming the first ever USC quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

Across the NFL’s first 59 Super Bowls, 35 different starting quarterbacks won a title. However, none of them had gone to USC. This year, that finally changed.

When he was drafted third overall by the New York Jets in 2018, Darnold was thought to be the league’s next star quarterback. However, his road to get to this point was anything but smooth, as he has played for five different teams in seven years and lost his starting job on numerous occasions.

Prior to Sunday, rivals Notre Dame, UCLA, Stanford, and Cal, had all produced Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks, but not the Trojans. At long last, that is no longer the case.
