The Indianapolis Colts announced that they released long-time veteran cornerback Kenny Moore.

So what are the salary cap ramifications of this move?

Moore was set to earn the final year of his deal with the Colts. Prior to being released was going to earn a base salary of $9.49 million, and he could have earned up to $510,000 in per game roster bonus. There is also $3.2 million in a pro-rated signing bonus that will count against the 2026 cap.

Add it all together, and had Moore been on the team, he would have come with a cap hit of $13.11 million.

How much salary cap space do the Colts save by releasing Kenny Moore?

Following Moore's release, the Colts free up $7.06 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season, according to Over the Cap. Moore, however, also leaves behind a dead cap hit of $6.05 million -- meaning that he will still count against the 2026 salary cap by that amount.

How much total salary cap space do Colts have?

This move has not yet been officially accounted for by OTC, but the Colts had $26.62 million in cap space before this move. So with some rough math, we can assume that they now have just over $34 million in available space. This gives the Colts the eighth most cap space in the NFL.

At this time of the year, even if the Colts did explore free agency, no addition is going to break the salary cap bank. So chances are, the bulk of that available cap space will go unused in 2026 and be rolled over to 2027.
