St. Paul had allowed nine total runs in winning two of its first three games at Omaha this week.
The Saints gave up more than that in Friday alone, falling 10-4 to the host Storm Chasers to level their six-game series at two games apiece heading into the weekend.
Omaha scored six runs over its final three turns at the plate to turn a 4-4 tie into an exciting night for the home crowd and what appears to be a one-sided contest in the final numbers.
St. Paul rallied from a 3-0 deficit at the end of the second inning to forge a 4-4 tie by the end of the fourth. However, after a scoreless fifth, the Storm Chasers bookended a four-run seventh with one-run frames in the sixth and eighth to handily claim the victory.
Kyler Fedko drove home two of the Saints’ four runs by smashing a double to left in the top of the third. Cody Morissette helped tie the game in the fourth with an RBI double before later scoring himself on a David Bañuelos sacrifice fly.
Ben Ross was the lone St. Paul batter to post more than one hit by going 2 for 3 with one run scored. The Saints logged seven hits in the game.
St. Paul starter Aaron Rozek had a rough day on the rubber, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out three.
Grant Hartwig (5-3, 6.30 ERA), the second of four relievers used by the Saints, took the loss after allowing the game-winning tally in the sixth to give Omaha the one-run lead — greatly enhanced by the hosts in the next inning. He was off the hill before the Storm Chasers all-but put the game away in the seventh.
The two teams meet again at 6:05 p.m. Saturday night. The Saints send RHP Ricky Castro (2-1, 4.20) to the mound against Storm Chasers RHP Henry Williams (2-2, 7.03).
