The Buffalo Sabres' season is over, and now they're looking toward the future.
With that in mind, they signed Jake Richard out of UConn to a two-year entry-level contract on Thursday, according to prospects writer Kris Baker.
Richard scored 32 goals in three years with the Huskies, and he totaled 88 points (56 assists) in 108 games.
"Strong below the dots," Baker wrote on X. "Really good shooter with a strong net-front game. He steadily improved his details away from the puck while in school."
Richard (name pronounced the French way, according to Baker) is originally from Jacksonville, Florida.

He was a sixth-round pick by the Sabres in the 2022 NHL Draft, 170th overall.
He had been playing in the USHL for the Muskegon Lumberjacks and then the Tri-City Storm.
Richard scored 83 points in 80 USHL games before heading to Connecticut.
As a freshman in Storrs, he had seven goals and 11 assists in 36 games.
He played 34 games as a sophomore with 15 goals and 28 assists.
Then this season, he had 10 goals and 17 assists in 38 games.
Richard is listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, and he'll likely have to prove himself in the minor leagues before maybe working his way to Buffalo down the road.
But it's a nice win for the Sabres that their sixth-rounder from four years ago is finally ready to join the professional ranks.
