The Buffalo Sabres are on the verge of a huge trade.
After days of rumors, the Sabres and the St. Louis Blues appear to have agreed to a framework that would send the right-shot defenseman Colton Parayko to Buffalo.
Parayko played for Team Canada in the Olympics and would be a massive pickup for the Sabres as they seek to end their 14-year playoff drought.
TSN's Darren Dreger reports that the Sabres would send prospect Radim Mrtka and a first-round pick back to St. Louis.
Multiple reports indicate that the deal is still waiting on Parayko's approval.
Mrtka would be a solid get for the Blues. He's a 6-foot-6 defenseman who was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and has split this season between AHL Rochester and WHL Seattle.
Parayko, 32, would fit nicely with the Sabres.
Parayko was part of the Blues' Stanley Cup championship team in 2019 and has spent his entire NHL career in St. Louis after being drafted in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft.
This season, Parayko has played 58 games and has one goal with 13 assists. He also has 141 blocked shots and 67 hits.
In his career, Parayko has 78 goals and 231 assists (309 points) in 781 games. He also has 1,528 career blocked shots and 1,010 career hits.
This is an indication that the Sabres aren't just chasing a playoff spot but also want to make noise in the postseason. Parayko can be a big part of that.
