New faces are taking charge of Rutherford County high school athletics.
Longtime area coach and administrator Greg Wyant has been named Rutherford County Schools' newest athletic director, the school system announced on June 17.
Rutherford County Director of Schools Dr. Jimmy Sullivan also announced that former Webb School - Bell Buckle AD, Jena Jones, has been hired in a new athletic supervisor role, which was created "to assist with eligibility compliance and other aspects of the district’s athletic program," per a news release.

Wyant takes over from Chris Harris, who is set to retire on June 30, having spent the past 34 years in the Murfreesboro area. He first coached at Riverdale for 16 years before moving to Siegel, where he's served as athletic director since 2010. Wyant is a member of the TSSAA Legislative Council and is president of the Tennessee Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
"The background that I'm from is really education-based athletics, where we want to really strive and drive home the education part, and that, you know, we're different than any other realm of athletics,” Wyant said in the news release. “I still think high school athletics is probably the purest form of athletics there is that's out there. We want to make sure that our coaches are driving home life lessons, not just skills and techniques.”
The creation of Jones' athletic supervisor position came in response to the recent influx of transfers to Rutherford County, following the TSSAA's passing of a new one-time transfer rule. Since the 2025 football season ended, three area football programs — Rockvale, Blackman and Riverdale — have been placed on probation by the TSSAA for recruiting violations.
"This is truly an opportunity to take a deeper dive into continuing to build that culture of excellence, continuing to build that culture of accountability and continuing to build on the culture of providing a positive experience for every student-athlete but doing it in the right way," Jones said.
"And not that Rutherford County hasn't been doing it in the right way, but there are so many checks and balances within each school and within the state association, for those students who want to go play at the next level, that it's hard to expect our athletic directors at each individual school to have all of that information.”
