Royce Lewis hit his fourth home run in as many games in the opening inning to stake St. Paul to an early 1-0 advantage against visiting Omaha on Sunday at CHS Field. Unfortunately for the Saints, that would be their only lead of the game. The Storm Chasers recorded the next five runs before holding off a late charge from the hosts as St. Paul fell 5-3 in the series finale between the teams.
Omaha quickly took the edge away from St. Paul with two runs in the top of the second before scoring lone tallies in the third, fifth and sixth frames to seize a 5-1 edge.
The Saints did not go quietly into the warm capital city evening, however. Designated hitter Kyler Fedko hit a two-run homer to left center field to plate himself and shortstop Kaelen Culpepper to cut the Storm Chasers’ lead in half.
However, the beginning of the rally was also its end as the next four St. Paul batters went down in order to end both the eighth and ninth innings and end the game.
In addition to his solo homer, Lewis went 2 for 3 with a walk and was the lone Saints batter to record more than a single hit in the contest. Fedko was 1 for 2 with two walks to go along with his one run scored and two RBI.
St. Paul starter Ty Langenberg (1-1, 5.40 ERA) took the loss after surrendering six hits and three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Omaha took four of six games between the clubs, with the Saints dropping back to .500, with both teams finishing Sunday with identical 25-25 records. St. Paul now heads out on the road for a series in Louisville (28-22).
