WESTWEGO, La. — No. 5 Patrick Taylor defeated No. 12 Academy of Our Lady 5-1 Monday night in the second round of the Division II Select softball playoffs.
Senior Ashtyn Rogers was terrific on the mound.
The Southeastern signee pitched a complete game. She struck out 12 batters and surrendered one hit with no earned runs.
The Penguins’ only run of the game came after an obstruction call at home plate.
The Tigers’ offense impressed early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
After several missed opportunities, the Tigers would manage two more runs after an RBI single in the fifth inning and a run that scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers now advance to the Division II Select quarterfinal round, where they will face the winner of the matchup between No. 13 David Thibodaux and No. 4 St. Charles Catholic.
