The Houston Rockets announced Thursday that they have re-signed veteran forward Jae’Sean Tate. Now 30 years old, Tate originally joined the Rockets as an undrafted free agent in the 2020 offseason.
Financial terms were not disclosed. However, the Houston Chronicle’s Varun Shankar reports that the contract is for one season, partially guaranteed, at the NBA’s veteran minimum salary.
In 46 games last season, Tate averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per 36 minutes played. He shot a career-high 51.4% from the floor and only committed 16 turnovers in 405 minutes of play.
Tate is approaching his seventh season with the team. In franchise history, only 15 players have played at least seven seasons as a Rocket, including current center Clint Capela.
Tate has the third-most games played (342) by any undrafted player in franchise history, trailing only Matt Bullard (538) and Chuck Hayes (426). Moses Malone was not drafted into the NBA but entered the league through the ABA dispersal draft.
Following his senior season at Ohio State in 2017-18, Tate played overseas in Belgum and Australia. He made his NBA debut in 2020-21 and became the first Rocket to earn All-Rookie First Team honors since Luis Scola in 2007-08.
Known for his defense, Tate will provide depth insurance for Houston’s 2026-27 frontcourt behind forwards such as Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason.
