Round 1 nearly saw a course record set at the 2026 Rocket Classic. What's in store for the second round?
Peter Malnati zipped out to seven birdies over the front nine before finishing the day with a 9-under 61, one off the record at Detroit Golf Club. The 39-year-old missed birdie putts on his last five holes, but he still carries a lead into Round 2.
An eagle and two separate birdie runs got Rickie Fowler two strokes behind Malnati alongside Ryan Gerard, while Patrick Fishburn, Michael Kim, Keegan Bradley and Michael Brennan also put up strong opening rounds. Star rookie Jackson Koivun, who won his first PGA Tour event last week, looks to avoid the weekend cut, as do world No. 3 Cameron Young and No. 9 Wyndham Clark.
