A date has been set for the rematch between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach after the two met back in March.
The outcome was a controversial draw after 12 rounds of squaring it in the ring. The two are now set to face each other for the third time on the 16th of August in Las Vegas. This fight will be used to clear up the controversy left after their previous fight which ended in a majority draw.
During their previous outing, Roach felt that he was robbed of a victory as he had a good performance in the ring. During the ninth round, Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) landed a strong jab, which caused Tank (30-0-1, 28 KOs) to take a knee. This was seen differently by the referee, Steve Willis, who did not rule it as a knockdown as he allowed Tank to get up and go to his corner to have his eyes wiped clean by his trainer.
Tank later claimed that he needed to have his eyes cleared of hair grease by his trainer. Tank was lucky that the referee, Steve Willis did not penalise him for that as it would have handed Roach the win. It was also interesting that the New York Commission did not overturn the results and the draw ruling during the match stood.
Roach will be glad to get another chance to prove he was the better man in the ring that day when the two meet again in August. Win or lose, both fighters are guaranteed a good payday, and this time, it is almost certain that Steve Willis will not be refereeing the contest so Tank will have to be at his best because he will not be able to use the ‘hair grease’ excuse again to gain favor from the referee.
