Left-handed starting pitcher Jake Bennett picked up his first career MLB loss on Thursday after allowing four runs on six hits across 5 1/3 innings pitched during the Boston Red Sox's defeat against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Bennett is now reportedly being sent down to Triple-A Worcester and being replaced by reliever Jack Anderson on Boston's roster.
"Per source: The Red Sox are optioning Jake Bennett and calling up RHP Jack Anderson from Triple-A. Ari Alexander was first on the Anderson piece," The Boston Herald's Mac Cerullo posted on Bluesky.
The 25-year-old southpaw's effort Thursday came after he earned a win his MLB debut on May 1 vs. the Houston Astros when he surrendered just one run on five hits in five innings.
Anderson is coming back to the Red Sox after originally being recalled ahead of his big-league debut in mid-April.
The right-hander allowed three runs on eight hits, two walks and six strikeouts across eight innings covering three relief appearances during his first stint in Boston from April 14-22.
