The Carolina Panthers seem to be in no hurry to re-sign their starting quarterback Bryce Young to a long-term contract extension. With his fifth-year option having been picked up, Young is under contract through the 2027 season—so the team has some time to evaluate the former first-round pick even further.
And according to the latest report from Joe Person at The Athletic, that's exactly what they're going to do. His source says that the Panthers will let Young play out the entire 2026 campaign before they begin talking about a new contract.
Person writes:

In an encouraging development, Young did take a big step forward last season—having passed for career-highs across the board while helping lead the organization to their first NFC South title in a decade. But he's still struggled to produce consistent results.
Young began the 2025 season with a 154-yard yard performance in a loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars—and he failed to top that mark six more times during the season. He also failed to top 200 passing yards in 12 of his starts, and only posted two games with 300 passing yards or more.
His highs are definitely getting higher—but until Young consistently raises that basement, the Panthers should not look to pay him a lucrative long-term deal.
