While it will likely come as little surprise to most fans of the Boston Celtics and the NBA, we are seeing news that Celtics short-timer center Nikola Vucevic is all but certain to change teams this summer. Boston President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens hinted at as much with vague praise for the Montenegrin big man at his end-of-season press conference. And given how his brief tenure with the team went very poorly for all involved, it makes all the sense in the world Vooch is likely to decamp this offseason.
According to the Stein Line's Marc Stein, the former Chicago Bulls big "is increasingly regarded as a certainty to switch teams this summer after a fractured right ring finger in March helped derail his brief stint as a Boston Celtic in the spring."
"He'll be 36 in October but figures to draw some interest on the open market given that there is generally always a clamor for floor-spacing big men," he adds.
We could perhaps see that prediction go awry if the market for his services is thinner than expected and Boston's ownership of his Bird rights allow them to sign him to an above-veteran minimum deal that is still team friendly without breaking into one of their exceptions.
But we have to agree it's more likely he ends up elsewhere by the time opening night rolls around in October.
