Veteran coach Felix Magath is being considered as a possible solution by struggling Wolfsburg if they decide to fire Daniel Bauer, the Bild newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The 72-year-old led the Wolves to the Bundesliga title in 2009 but last worked as a coach at Hertha Berlin in 2022.

Asked by the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung about the rumours, Magath said: "I do not want to say anything about the situation at VfL."

Magath has been sporting director at his home-town club Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the German fourth tier since 2025.

After six games without a win, Wolfsburg are 15th in the Bundesliga, level on points with St Pauli in the relegation play-off place.

Bauer was only promoted to head coach from the under-19s in December and received a vote of confidence from club bosses on Saturday after the 3-2 home defeat by Augsburg.

New supervisory board member Diego Benaglio was a player under Magath at Wolfsburg. However, reports say there are also members of the board who are not convinced about a Magath return.
