Amid all the buzz about a potential Boston Celtics trade for Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, fans and analysts alike have been coming through the reports emerging about such a possibility with a proverbial fine-toothed comb, trying to discern the origin(s) of such rumors and the intent of those letting them circulate.

After having poo-pooed the prospect of Boston's front office going after Antetokounmpo, senior ESPN reporter Brian Windhorst chimed in yet again on the topic in a recent "NBA Today" appearance. "The Bucks are trying to draw out everyone's best offer," he explained. "There have been a lot of discussions, but everyone is cognizant of other people maybe offering other packages and nobody wants to bid against themselves ... ."

"Giannis ... has expressed an interest in extending his contract in Miami, which is why Miami has been so interested in doing it," he added. "But Boston is also out there because Giannis ... from what I am told, is willing to extend his contract in Boston."

"But when you get to Boston, you have to understand there is two enormously important things," he said. "No. 1, what it would take to get Giannis ... in a trade. I think the Celtics are going to be very, very cautious with making any firm offer. Second thing is, if you are going to entertain trading for Giannis ... you are talking about changing your entire style of play in Boston, and Joe Mazzulla has pretty much been dogmatic in how he wants to play."

Again, a close read suggests nothing immanent or perhaps even recent regarding Boston interest in a Giannis trade. But there is some sort of smoke wafting about regarding these rumors, so we will continue to monitor the situation as we inch closer to the supposed decision point of such a trade, the 2026 NBA Draft.
