REPORT: Chiefs request permission to interview Bears' Eric Bieniemy

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly interested in bringing back a valued member of their coaching staff this offseason.

According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have requested permission to interview Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy for their offensive coordinator job. The belief is that Matt Nagy won't return as he is advancing in the interview process for a head coaching job this offseason.

Bieniemy spent nine years as an assistant coach and coordinator with Kansas City before joining the Washington Commanders as their offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the 2023 season. He is currently the running backs coach for the NFC North champion Chicago Bears, who were recently eliminated in the Divisional round of the playoffs.

The former offensive coordinator was popular amongst star players during his tenure for his ability to hold everyone accountable for mistakes. Bieniemy notably made a supportive guest appearance in the Chiefs' locker room during the AFC Championship game matchup with the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023 Super Bowl season.
