Mia Bieniemy, the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was shot at the Virginia home she shares with the coach on Sunday, July 26, and hospitalized, according to ESPN.

The incident reportedly transpired in the evening, with Loudoun County officials telling ESPN an individual was being tended to for “serious injuries.” Their identity was not revealed, according to the report.

“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” the Chiefs told PEOPLE in a statement on Monday, July 27.

“Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

Bieniemy, a Super Bowl-winning coordinator with the Chiefs, was in Missouri on Sunday as the club kicked off its second practice of training camp, ESPN reported.

He returned to the team earlier this year to fill the offensive coordinator role, which he previously held from 2018-2022. The 56-year-old worked with the Chicago Bears last season as a running backs coach.
