TEMPE, Ariz. – One of the Arizona Cardinals’ needs this season is to strengthen their pass rush.

According to Outsports.com, they’ll begin addressing it with defensive end Michael Sam.

In a report Sunday that addressed the possibility Sam is being frozen out of the NFL because he’s openly gay, coach Bruce Arians told Outsports.com the Cardinals would evaluate Sam.

“Arians even told me that despite their 3-4 defense they'll be looking at Sam in the next few weeks,” Outsports.com’s Cyd Zeigler wrote.

I could not care less how he likes his bread buttered. If the coaches believe he can consistently get to the qb, then he should be a target for us to acquire.

I don't like the attention around him because of his sexuality; I am interested in whether he has talent. If he's truly being bounced in the NFL because of that, then let's snap him up. However, he has been cut from two teams now, and odds are he's not talented enough to play the game at this level. And that's ok. Not many are.

Can't have it both ways. Sam couldn't make it to a practice squad while Tebow at least has won a playoff game. You can't sit there and tell me with a straight face that Luke McCown is better than Tebow to the point that he is still gainfully employed on an NFL roster while Tebow doesn't even get an invite. Or Ryan Lindley for that matter. So if it's politics on one then it has to be politics on the other.

Tebow probably deserved a shot at a roster or practice squad for a long time, but he unfairly got a huge spotlight on him. You can't tell me that he's worse than Lindley or a good percentage of 3rd string QBs in this league.

The same goes for Sam, in a way, although he hasn't proven anything yet, unlike Tebow. So, yeah, they're both screwed.

I think both are frozen out because they cannot play. Both have been on multiple teams and not able to stay on a roster. Tells you something.

It really isn't about being gay or straight, it's about the risk/reward associated with a player.

For instance, if Suh came out tomorrow as gay, he would still be paid HUGE dollars to play by some team. His "gayness" would not be a big issue. Why? Because the dude can PLAY.

IMO it isn't Sam's sexual orientation that is the major issue, it's his talent level. He just may not be good enough to play at the next level. So far, it seems that a couple of teams have made that determination.

I have no issue if the Cardinals invite him in to compete for a job.

He has applied to be in the inaugural veterans combine so we'll see.

I think the Cardinals' reported interest in Sam may be taken out of context. Sam will be participating in the veterans combine at U of P and therefore the context of BA's remarks is that the Cardinals will be evaluating Sam and all other participants at that combine. Had the Cardinals had that much interest in Sam they could have signed him to a future's contract.

What Sam and Tebow have in common is the sheer will and corresponding work ethic to succeed. They are both winners in my book.
