In the midst of all of the rumors, rumbles, and reports about the Boston Celtics listening to trade pitches for star forward Jaylen Brown, whispers of Boston kicking the tires on a potential trade having (at least as currently reported) nothing whatever to do with dealing away the Georgia native has percolated up in a new article from USA Today senior reporter Michael Scotto.

According to Scotto, the Celtics have interest in dealing for Denver Nuggets sharpshooter Cam Johnson. But Boston is reportedly not alone in that pursuit, with the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, and Orlando Magic also named as ball clubs with an interest in trading for Johnson.

"The 30-year-old forward shot career-highs from the field (.480) and beyond the arc (.430), and is on an expiring $23.06 million contract for the upcoming season," he notes.

The Celtics certainly could use the sort of help he Nuggets 3-and-D specialist could provide on the wing, and his expiring contract could give Boston a parachute should a trade for Johnson not live up to expectations.

It also would allow the Celtics to potentially extend him to a lower-cost contract should the fit live up to their idea of how he would fit into the team's rotation.
