17-year-old Bayern Munich youngster Moritz Göttlicher has been at the Bayern Munich’s campus since he was 7 and has advanced through every age group at the FC Bayern Campus aside from the U-23s. But now the journey in Munich may come to an end by his own choice, according to Sky Sport reporter Patrick Berger, though his new home is not very far away:

VFL Bochum is working to sign Bayern talent Moritz Göttlicher. Talks between clubs are advanced, but not yet done. He would not cost a transfer fee in the summer [contract until June 2026]. Bochum wants him now and is offering a top perspective in the squad. Agreement on a contract until 2031 is already done.

Göttlicher is big, athletic, technically proficient and one of the best talents in the current U-19 squad. He could certainly join the likes of Kenan Yildiz and Angelo Stiller as talents fans will question the club on losing if he fulfills his potential. Besides, his name directly translates to ‘godlike’ in English. It would be a massive shame to lose him.

But Bayern already have two young midfielders in the senior squad in Aleksandar Pavlović and Tom Bischof while the likes of Javier Fernández, Noël Aséko Nkili and Felipe Chávez are ahead of him as young midfielders vying to make it into the first team. Clearly, Göttlicher does not have a great chance of breaking into Bayern’s first team. An immediate jump to Bochum in the 2. Bundesliga and the opportunity to compete with the first team is likely too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Ultimately, it is also good that Bayern are collecting a transfer fee for Göttlicher rather than a simple compensation fee like they did for Yildiz and Stiller.
