Renner, Dell Rapids PBR continue to lead state amateur baseball poll

ABERDEEN — Taryn Hermansen of Aberdeen Central has been selected as the 2026 Gatorade South Dakota Girls Track and Field Player of the Year.

Hermansen captured her second-straight state Class AA shot put title and also placed third in the discus in the recent South Dakota State High School Track and Field Championships.

She also set a personal-best throw (48 feet, 11 inches) in the shot put this spring, the second best throw all-time in state history.

Hermansen, a recent Aberdeen Central graduate, is going to continue her track and field career at the University of South Dakota.

All-State Softball​

Five players from state Class B champion Castlewood were recently named to the South Dakota high school softball coaches' 2026 all-state teams.

Catcher Lilly Jacobsen, infielder Sophia Kudrna, outfielders Cydni Kudrna and Natalie Akin and pitcher Claire Horn each made the team for the Warriors, who capped a 21-4 season with the state title.

Other area Class B players honored include outfielders Kadee Frankfurth of Clark-Willow Lake and Graclyn Nielsen of Deuel and pitcher Aubrey Lanners of Deuel. Outfielder Hayden Gall of Redfield, which finished sixth in the state tourney, received honorable mention.

Designated player Cameron Uecker and outfielder Kassidy Smith of Sioux Valley each made the Class A all-state team. Catcher Amelia Jacobson received honorable mention for the Cossacks, won the consolation championship at state.

The Class AA all-state team has not been released.

• Other Class A all-state — Catchers Maddy Kunzweiler of West Central and Mia Riibe of Dakota Valley; infielders Addy Kunzweiler and Ayla Kramer of West Central, Kadence Davey of Tri-Valley, Paige Moffatt of Dakota Valley, Rylie Laurvick of Beresford and Mara Klingbile of Madison; outfielders Reese Olson and Tavyn Tiedeman of Beresford and Ava Christiensen of Tri-Valley; and pitchers Kelcie Dudley and Aubri Tobkin of Madison, Anne Bourne and Emma Barnett of Dakota Valley, and Linzie Hoff of West Central. Honorable mention: Designated players Aisley Grib of Dell Rapids and Haleigh Wallenstein of Tri-Valley, infielders Harley Koth of Beresford and Dylyn Wagner of Vermillion; and outfielders Emma Lanpher of Dell Rapids and Ally Peterson of Vermillion.

WATERTOWN — The Renner Monarchs (Class A) and Dell Rapids PBR (Class B) continue hold down top spots in the latest South Dakota Amateur Baseball Poll released on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Here are this week's complete rankings:

• Class B — 1. Renner Monarchs; 2. Brookings Cubs; 3. Harrisburg Woodies; 4. Yankton Lakers; 5. Sioux Falls Brewers. Receiving votes: Aberdeen Circus.
• Class A — 1. Dell Rapids PBR; 2. Alexandria Angels; 3. Dell Rapids Mudcats; 4. Canova Gang; 5. Castlewood Ravens; 6. (Tie) Parkston Mudcats and Platte Killer Tomatoes; 8. Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks; 9. Redfield Dairy Queen; 10. (Tie) Kimball-White Lake Nationals and Elk Point .Colt 45s. Augustana Athletics Hall of Fame​

SIOUX FALLS — Arlington native and standout wrestler Cody Henriksen is one of 10 people slated to be inducted into the Augustana Athletics Hall of Fame in 2026.

The hall of fame ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 23 at the Elemen Center on the Augustana campus.

Other are Kristin (Brondbo) Klumper, women's cross country/track & field; CJ Ham, football; Dan Jansen, men's basketball; Maggie (Leland) Sisser, women's golf; Ryan Nodland, football; Jessa (Richards) Boike, women's tennis; Austin Scarset, wrestling; Casey Schilling, men's basketball and Erin (Seidel) Quist, women's soccer.

Henriksen was a three-time All-American wrestler at 165 pounds for the Vikings. Not only was he a dominant force athletically but also academically, earning 2006-07 Academic All-NCC, DII All-Academic, CoSIDA Academic All-District and CoSIDA Academic All-American first team honors for his work in the classroom.

Henriksen placed sixth as a sophomore, fourth as a junior and third as a senior in the NCAA Division II national championships. He also earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 2006-07. Henriksen, who also spent 10 years as a volunteer with the Vikings' program after he graduated, finished with a career record of 75-42.
