May 24—PIERRE — The SoDak 16 matchups for the South Dakota High School Activities Association softball postseason have been set for Tuesday, May 26, with Sioux Falls Jefferson, Madison and Castlewood as the No. 1 seeds.
The reigning state champion Cavaliers have won 29 games in a row and are the only remaining undefeated team in South Dakota high school softball. Sioux Falls Jefferson will face No. 16 Spearfish in the opening game at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Other top seeds include No. 2 Harrisburg (18-1) taking on No. 15 Watertown, No. 3 Sioux Falls Washington (18-3) hosting No. 14 Mitchell and No. 4 Brandon Valley (14-4) hosting No. 13 Pierre. The Class AA postseason is not re-seeded, with the eight winners in the SoDak 16 feeding directly into the state bracket.
In Class A, Madison is the No. 1 seed after a 13-2 record, finishing in front of No. 2 Tri-Valley (16-2) and No. 3 Dakota Valley (11-4). The Mustangs were the second-place finishers last season and Dakota Valley finished in fourth place. West Central (13-6), which was the state champion in 2025, is seeded No. 4 and will host Mount Vernon/Plankinton.
Castlewood is the No. 1 seed in the Class B postseason and McCook Central/Montrose is the No. 2 seed. Castlewood takes on Viborg-Hurley in the SoDak 16, while MCM will host Bon Homme. Deuel, the state champion from 2025, is the No. 3 seed and will host Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy.
The winners of the games on Tuesday will advance to their respective state tournaments on June 4-6, with the Class AA state bracket taking place at Bowden Field at Augustana University in Sioux Falls. The Class A and Class B brackets are taking place at the Players Complex in Aberdeen.
