Yup......We had the chance to trade it for Dallas' entire draft.....all eight picks.........now if we had a crack at Suggs and someone came and offered us the same deal, what would you do this year?

Maybe the Saints did better than we think with that trade. Didn't they trade with WAS? How has WAS done since then. Plus the Saints now get an extra #1 this year for Ricky.

The MIN deal was a joke but what do you expect from a group of people who think it is somehow smart and fun to build a shack on a sheet of ice and fish in there?

Lets see, getting Aikman, Smith and Irwin helped Dallas some. Don't forget, Dallas had the first pick in the draft and took a franchise QB. Until we have some sucess with our picks, I don't think 8 extra picks would help. Maybe it keeps us from picking first in the draft next year. Two year plan, Leftwich this year and Roy Williams next year.

Don't mean to criticize but the Cards have a 3 year plan.

I might go Nidan on this and re-post this message anytime someone talks about drafting Leftwich...

Pay attention, people! We have out QB of the future, and, like it or not, his name is Josh McCown. They said it when we drafted him as the 3rd QB off the board last year, and they said it the day that we signed Blake.

I give you my Kerouac 9's LOCK OF THE DRAFT: We will not draft a QB in the first four rounds. You can take that to the bank. Maybe next year, if McCown looks like the next Gio Carmazzi, but not this year.

The Saints came out pretty good in that trade. Did they turn the team around in one season? No, but they did become a contender based on a strong running game. Ricky Williams wasn't traded because we wasn't running the rock effectively.

Everybody always beats ditka up over that trade, but a good part of their recent success can be attributed to him. I think he summed it up perfectly in an interview on that draft day after a number of teams turned him down: "If I'm so stupid for making this trade, then why did 5 teams tell me 'no'?" (paraphrased).

I agree with you kerouac on Rd 1. I won't go so far as to say we won't take a QB on day 1 though. But, Leftwich is definitely "out" IMO. There is a lot of talk about his leg, and he's dropping. I don't think we'd take him even if he never got injured. In my mind, he's not a "franchise QB". At least not a lock to be one.

I do not think we will take a qb either....it will be newman, suggs, a defensive tackle or andre johnson. I hope it is not andre johnson..I would take in order of preference 1. suggs 2. the best dtackle available..or 3. newman. I am not that big on having newman (too much $$ in the secondary, 2 small cbs (newman and starks)..but we could use another playmaker and a punt returner..so I could live with it (not that I have a choice!)..

From the little bit we saw of McCown in the pre-season and in the regular season, if he is the quarterback of the future, the Cards are in serious trouble.

Interesting point about trading down if Suggs is still there when we pick.

What I like about it is that we won't be putting all our eggs in one basket. We also have several needs on the team and picking up two starters for one should not be overlooked.

What I don't like is that Suggs would fill this teams biggest need by far. Someone who can be this big a force in the pass rush improves everyone's performance on the D.

I truly doubt Suggs will fall to us,

He may not get by the Bengals.

Even the Lions would have to consider him

Texans will try to trade down and whoever that trade is with would most likely be after Suggs. Even if they don't, Suggs probably won't slide past them.

Suggs most likely won't get past the Bears.

No way the Cowboys don't take him or trade down to someone who wants him.

Truly a miracle if Suggs is still here at this point. RDE's are almost like QB's in the draft, teams will take a flyer on them even if they think the player has some warts. Suggs may have a blemish or two but he is wart free.

What could happen though is teams with 2 1st rd picks could want to trade up for a player still on the board at 6.

Jets have the 13th and 2? picks and may want a stud DT.

Saints have to picks in the 1st rd (late teens to early 20's). They could use a CB like Newman or a stud DT.

Pats have picks in the in the middle of rd 1. They would probably opt to keeping these and taking 2 players on D but anything is possible.

So if the opportunity is there to trade down and get 2 1st rounders do the Cards take this chance?

Latest rumor out of NYC is that the Jets (with the new pick they got for Coles) are talking with Chicago in order to deal up to #4.

Good. They'll almost definately take A. Johnson.

I doubt they will have to move up to 4 to get Johnson. I also read that the Jets are close to signing Conway. They need to upgrade their D-Line so there are a couple of options there.
