The Rochester Red Wings extended their winning streak to 10 games Wednesday with an 8-4 victory against the Syracuse Mets at ESL Ballpark.

The Red Wings, who have won 15 of their last 16 games, improved to 32-20, the best record in the International League. Rochester answered a three-run first inning from Syracuse with a four-run surge of its own, then pulled away behind a three-run fifth and a strong bullpen effort.

Riley Cornelio allowed four runs over four innings, but four relievers combined to hold the Mets scoreless over the final five frames.

Syracuse jumped on Cornelio in the top of the first. Yonny Hernández and Christian Arroyo singled before Andy Ibáñez hit a three-run homer to left.

The Red Wings responded quickly in the bottom half against Syracuse starter Zach Thornton. Christian Franklin worked a leadoff walk and scored from first on Harry Ford’s double to left. Abimelec Ortiz tied it with a two-run shot to right-center, his ninth homer of the season and his fourth straight game with a home run. Brady House followed with a solo homer to left, giving Rochester a 4-3 lead after just four batters.

Cornelio settled in before Syracuse drew even in the fourth. Jackson Cluff dropped a bunt single, stole second and scored when Kevin Parada lined a single to center.

Rochester seized control for good in the bottom of the fifth. Franklin opened the inning with a double to left and Ortiz hit another home run to center for his 10th of the year and a 6-4 lead. Later in the inning, Andrew Pinckney’s infield single and a walk to Joey Wiemer set up Riley Adams, who lined an RBI single to center to push the margin to 7-4.

House added the final blow in the seventh, leading off with his second solo homer of the game, this one to right off Alex Carrillo, to cap the scoring at 8-4. The third baseman finished 3-for-4 with two homers and two RBIs, while Ortiz went 2-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs.
