Detroit — There will be a new general manager, and captain Dylan Larkin may or may not be in a Red Wings' uniform, but the team has its Little Caesars Arena start date for the 2026-27 season.
The NHL announced all 32 teams' season openers Wednesday, with the Wings beginning their home schedule Friday, Oct. 2, against the New York Rangers.

The NHL regular season will begin Sept. 29, about a week earlier than usual, as it moves to an 84- from an 82-game regular season. Training camps and the exhibition season were shrunk to only four games, and approximately 10 days, respectively, because of the slightly expanded regular season.
The Wings announced Wednesday that Steve Yzerman would be replaced as the team's general manager. The wings have missed the playoffs for the last 10 seasons — the longest current streak in the NHL.
The NHL will release the entire regular season schedule Thursday.
