What Steve Yzerman news means for Dylan Larkin trade from Red Wings originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It was already complicated, but the complexity of Dylan Larkin's situation with the Detroit Red Wings just went up.
Larkin has requested a trade, but the Red Wings haven't actually dealt him yet. And on Wednesday, Steve Yzerman stepped down from his role as GM.
That will mean a new decision maker to be hired by Detroit, and the domino effect on what happens to Larkin this offseason could be noticeable.

What's next for Dylan Larkin?
Larkin isn't likely to change his trade request due to a change in front office leadership, so instead this turns into a waiting game.
It wouldn't make sense for the Red Wings to trade Larkin without a true front office leader in place, so now the negotiations likely enter a holding pattern.
When someone new does take over, they'll have to take stock of the situation, including the teams Larkin has approved from his no-trade clause -- a reported list of four at the moment (Florida, Minnesota, Vegas, Dallas).
And then it'll be a matter of whether the new GM sees things the same way Yzerman did. Yzerman was adamant that he wasn't going to sell low on Larkin, even with the trade request making it obvious to other teams that they may not have to make a great offer to Detroit.
A new GM could decide that it's simply time to get past this situation and settle for a lesser deal.
It's going to be a new era for the Red Wings, with a new GM in position to trade away the disgruntled captain immediately.
It just might be a little while while the league waits for that hire to be made.
