The Rochester Red Wings defeated the Syracuse Mets 8-5 on Sunday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.

Yohandy Morales led the Red Wings' offense, going 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Andrés Chaparro added an RBI, and Andrew Pinckney drove in two runs.

Christian Franklin started the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning. Morales added a solo shot in the fourth to give Rochester a 2-1 lead.

Rochester scored three times in the sixth. Harry Ford scored on Morales' RBI double, then Morales and Robert Hassell III scored on Pinckney's two-run single.

The Red Wings added a run in the seventh when Chaparro drew a bases-loaded walk to score Franklin. Rochester tacked on two more in the ninth.

Hassell III contributed an RBI single, and Phillip Glasser went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Franklin walked twice and scored twice.

Hassell III stole a base, while Glasser swiped two and Franklin added one.

Rochester Red Wings pitching​


Riley Cornelio earned the win, working five innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out eight without issuing a walk. Syracuse scored on solo home runs by Jackson Cluff in the third and Ryan Clifford in the fourth.

Zach Penrod allowed one run in the sixth. Luke Young surrendered two runs in the seventh, including a solo home run by Cristian Pache. Eddy Yean notched his fifth save.

The Red Wings used six pitchers and combined to strike out 15.

Joey Gerber took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits and a walk in one inning.

Rochester Red Wings notes​


Rochester improved to 20-19 and moved back above .500 for the first time since April 22. Syracuse fell to 20-18. The Red Wings outhit the Mets 12-8 and went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Red Wings manager Matthew LeCroy was ejected in the sixth inning by first-base umpire Thomas Fornarola.
