With the 2026 All-Star Weekend right around the corner, the MLB has decided the rest of the rosters after the fan vote finished. For the Boston Red Sox, two names were selected: starting pitcher Ranger Suarez, and closer Aroldis Chapman.

However, two huge names for Boston were ignored; both first baseman Willson Contreras and acting ace Sonny Gray were left off of the roster. Both media and fans are calling these two the biggest All-Star snubs this year, and for good reason.

Contreras has been a monster

This season, Contreras has been Boston’s best hitter hands down, and is a top ten hitter in all of baseball. This season, he’s slashing .285/.378/.536/.914 with 15 doubles, 19 home runs, and 56 RBI in 85 games.

Even with these great numbers, he was left off the AL roster. Ben Rice, Nick Kurtz were chosen ahead of him, and to be fair, they are ahead of him on the top ten hitters’ list. What isn’t fair is the man starting over all of them, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is doing the worst. Because of the fan vote, the man having the worst season starts over the guys who are doing the best.

Gray has been unbeatable

Gray is also having a similar problem. With Boston’s superstar ace Garrett Crochet having missed most of the season, Gray stepped up to be the ace of the rotation in his place.

He’s done very well, posting a 10-1 record, a 2.61 ERA, 82 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.104 over 89 innings pitched. He’s also the winningest pitcher in the AL this season with his 10 wins.

It’s crazy to think that Gray is a top pitcher in the MLB, yet he was left off the list. His rotation mate and the No. 2 to his No .1, Ranger Suarez got in over him. This is no dig to Suarez, as he has been almost as elite as Gray and deserves the nod, but it’s still weird to think about.

MLB does have a chance to fix this

Luckily, the MLB does have a chance to fix its mistakes. Guerrero is sitting out the All-Star game with an injury, so Contreras could be named his replacement. Same for Gray, as guys like Hunter Brown and Tarik Skubal are on the fence due to injuries. If one of them can’t play, Gray should be the first replacement to call.

Hopefully, the MLB gets this right, and those two get the honor they so rightfully deserve.
